Understanding ADHD through personal experience and professional care

With more than 15 years working in mental health and wellbeing, I combine evidence-based CBT with a deep, personal understanding of ADHD.

My focus is on providing a space where you feel seen, understood and connected to who you truly are.

Late diagnosis

My ADHD diagnosis happened in my mid-forties - a late, but widely shared experience for many women.  Initially it was unsettling, and a time of reflecting on who I really was and why so much of life had felt unnecessarily hard.  However, that transitioned into relief and a sense of validation that I wasn't somehow broken.

The reality of "masking"

Growing up, I was often told I was "too much", too emotional", "lazy" or "careless".  Like many of us who are neurodivergent, I learned early on that something must be wrong with me, and to try and squash my true self, "masking", to fit in and avoid annoying people.

Embracing the "different"

Taking some time to really understand and embrace my ADHD has had a far reaching impact on my life. It's allowed me to lean into my strengths, and passions, work with my energy, and find my voice.

It doesn't mean life suddenly becomes perfect, but there's a sense of balance and reward that comes from living more in line with who we really are.

Why Different Therapy?

Ultimately, I've settled into a belief that the problem isn't being "different"; it's the pressure or demands, from ourselves, from others, to behave like we're not different.

I created Different Therapy because I love connecting with people, and supporting them with navigating life.

But also because I want anyone with ADHD to feel that therapy can be helpful.  It doesn't have to feel rigid or clinical; it can be flexible, individual and different.

Whether we work together or your journey takes you in another direction, I hope you find the space to embrace your "different" too.

If you feel like we might be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you.
